Grandparents As Parents Conference Set for March 24
By Martha Sparks
Many popular features of previous Grandparents As Parents conferences are available again this year – the ninth annual edition of this event.
Scheduled for Thursday, March 24 at the Clarion Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn North) at 1950 Newtown Pike, the conference runs from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
The conference begins with a keynote address by Charlie Appelstein, a youth care specialist who leads training sessions and consults with those working with children experiencing emotional and behavioral issues.
Douglas Burnham, of the University of Kentucky faculty, will lead a panel discussion featuring insights and reflections by people who have been raised by grandparents.
A group of Lexington lawyers will give 30-minute consultations, which are free but registration is required.
Among other workshops are sessions dealing with the family dynamics of becoming a parent again, setting boundaries, and how to survive and even enjoy the young children in your care.
Registration is $5 for grandparents, relatives or caregivers, and $35 for professionals.
The fee includes a continental breakfast and lunch. The GAP conference offers Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) in social work and for lawyers.
