Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League Celebrates 10 Years
This year the Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League will celebrate its 10th anniversary of allowing children with mental and physical disabilities to experience the joy of baseball.
Players travel from all over the state to be a part of this special league. Since the primary challenges arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional leagues, TBML teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assertive devices while helping to prevent injuries.
Each Saturday during the spring and fall, children ages 5-19 participate in baseball at its finest in a league where everyone is a winner. The league has evolved to include adults who play on Tuesdays during the spring and fall as well.
Opening day is scheduled for April 9. The Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League welcomes athletes with special needs to participate, regardless of their condition. More information for TBML can be found at bgml.org.
The day-to-day operations of the League are managed by the YMCA of Central Kentucky, in partnership with the board of directors at the TBML.
