How eager is Eva Mitchell of West Jessamine High to start her collegiate soccer career?

The 5-foot-7, 128-pound center forward will graduate early in December so she can enroll at UK for the spring semester as a 17-year-old freshman.

Eva has doubled up on her classes at West Jessamine, cramming a full year of senior English into one semester by augmenting her studies with an online class.

She has a 3.48 GPA and has taken two A.P. classes. She is active in her church and volunteers with her team in various charities.

Eva planned to graduate early as soon as she committed to the Wildcats last year as a junior.

“I really wanted to get started and not miss out on training with the team in the spring,” she said.

UK has landed one of the state’s top players. A four-year starter in high school, Eva was an All-State selection as a sophomore and junior and figures to be again this season.

She has led the team in scoring for three straight seasons and assists the past two.

As a freshman, she led the team in assists and was second in scoring.

Eva also starred on the school’s best soccer team two years ago.

As a sophomore she led the team in scoring and was second in assists for the Colts, who lost only one game to a Kentucky team.

West Jessamine advanced to the Elite Eight of the State tournament before falling to Owensboro Catholic, 1-0.

The eventual state champion was South Oldham, a team West Jessamine dominated during the regular season, 8-4.

Eva scored five goals in the game before the starters were pulled with 30 minutes to go and the team leading 8-0.

“That was like a dream team,” said Eva, whose older sister Katie also started for the Colts.

“The game against South Oldham was one of the most fun games ever. The team played so well together. Everything just clicked that day.”

Eva also stars in club soccer where she has led Louisville Javanon in scoring three years in a row and to three straight State cups.

Eva is a speedy player with quick feet and superb field vision.

“She’s equally good with her right and left foot,” said her father, Doug. “She is so hungry to play the game. She almost never misses a day of soccer.”

Said Eva: “I love soccer because it’s always a different scenario. It’s not scripted.”

The only thing scripted, it seems, is Eva’s path to success
