For its first summer school in the U.S., London’s Royal School of Needlework (RSN) has chosen Sayre School as its host.

The two-week camp, which runs in July, drew 200 adult students from all four corners of the country to practice the art of hand embroidery.

Founded in 1872, the RSN has brought 10 teachers from the United Kingdom to offer a wide range of courses for beginners to advanced embroiderers. Steeped in history with unrivalled expertise in the techniques of hand embroidery, the RSN has taken captivating, traditional art and made it relevant today.

Morning and afternoon sessions ran July 9-13 and July 16-20.

The RSN was attracted to Lexington for the city’s extensive educational institutions, central geographic location and reputation for hospitality.

Sayre made the following statement:

“With its impressive campus and facilities nestled in the historic district of downtown Lexington, Sayre has become an ideal venue for outstanding summer conferences and programs such as that offered by the Royal School of Needlework.”
