‘Fam U’ Will Provide a LIFT for Families
In the Fayette County Public Schools, families are our partners in all that we do, and we are committed to working collaboratively with you to ensure the success of every student.
One of our many outreach efforts is an exciting program we call Family University, or “Fam U” for short.
Family University is a series of Saturday learning opportunities we offer several times a year for parents and other caregivers to provide another avenue for empowering families to be more fully engaged in their children’s education.
Fam U also helps parents understand more about our schools and school district offerings.
The day is structured to provide classes, workshops and other events that familiarize participants not only with our schools, but also with community resources.
Each FamU event is unique, but one thing they all have in common is that there’s something for everyone!
- Sessions for Parents and Guardians: Explore opportunities to support students’ learning at home. Past topics have included School Readiness, Early Literacy Practices, Issues and Trends Affecting Youth, New Curriculum Programs in FCPS, Services for English Learners, College and Career Readiness, and more!
- Sessions for Youth: These fun and enriching activities for ages 4-18 focus on leadership, STEM, arts, and college and career readiness.
- Resource Fairs: FCPS and community partners highlight resources that support families and provide services to support academic achievement outside the classroom.
In March, FCPS Family University will partner with Urban League of Lexington, the YMCA of Central Kentucky Black Achievers Program and other community partners to host the annual Lifting & Impacting Futures Today (LIFT) Conference.
Founded in 2003 to help diverse students understand how to navigate life after high school, LIFT also provides learning opportunities for families to be knowledgeable about the pathway towards college and career readiness.
This year’s event will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Gatton School of Business and Economics located at 550 South Limestone.
Register to attend at www.liftlex2019.eventbrite.com.
The conference will provide support to families in navigating education from cradle to career, and $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors.

We hope you will join us. When families and schools work together, our students are more engaged and more successful.
You are your child’s first teacher and we can’t do this work without you!
