Sweet Blessings Needs Volunteers for Annual Bake-A-Thon
Sweet Blessings, which bakes custom birthday cakes for children living in poverty, with a life-threatening illness or with special needs, is looking for volunteers for its eighth annual Bake-A-Thon.
This year’s Bake-A-Thon, where volunteers make as many birthday cakes as possible in one day, kicks off at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26 and lasts until midnight at Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church at 180 Maxwell Street.
Sweet Blessings needs more volunteers to help beat last year’s total, in which they made 154 cakes in about 15 hours. Anyone is welcome to volunteer.
The non-profit Sweet Blessings receives cake referrals from social service providers, schools and churches. Volunteers then bake cakes specifically designed for each child.
The Bake-A-Thon requires little to no baking experience. Veteran volunteers help teach newcomers how to make cakes. Other jobs include washing dishes, cleaning and boxing up the cakes.
Timeslots are four hours long. Volunteers are most needed between 1 and 9 p.m.
Last year, Sweet Blessings made and delivered 2,600 cakes in Central Kentucky. That number has grown every year since 2011.
Volunteers can sign up by visiting www.sweetblessingscakes.org/ and clicking the “Annual Bake-A-Thon” banner, or by contacting Linda Johnson at (859) 533-3431.
