Santa Visits KY Railway Museum
Begin the holiday season with the Kentucky Railway Museum as Santa takes a break from his busy schedule to take a train ride throughout Nelson County.
The “Santa Express” and “North Pole Express” are two special events held annually at the Kentucky Railway in New Haven. During a 1.5 train ride, Santa visits with the children aboard. Hot chocolate and cookies are served, and passengers are encouraged to wear pajamas for a festive North Pole experience.
Photo opportunities with Santa are available, and the museum is open for children of all ages to explore the model trains inside.
Lynn Kustes, Marketing Manager for the Kentucky Railway Museum, said children are always excited to take a train ride with their families while meeting Santa.
“I believe that families are looking for an event that they can do together without the distractions of daily life,” Kustes said. “Anyone can see Santa, but not everyone can see him on a train.”
Many passengers come in large groups, Kustes said, with parents and grandparents all joining in on the fun. In fact, it’s not unusual to see a ticket order for 10 adults accompanying two children.
“I have been here for a lot of years and I have seen many families come year after year,” she said. “These same moms and dads are now bringing their grandchildren. This event is truly a family affair and for many families it has become a holiday tradition.”
Train rides are scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 1-22. Advanced ticket purchase is required as the train rides often sell out. Purchase tickets online at www.kyrail.org or call (800) 272-0152.
