Easy Pumpkin Baby Food

PumpkinpureePumpkins are good for more than just decoration this fall- they are also great for making baby food!

Pumpkins are a good source of potassium, protein and iron. So now that you are done with the Jack-O-Lanterns, grab a few and hit the kitchen.

Here is our Easy Pumpkin Puree recipe:
Easy Pumpkin Puree

You’ll Need:

1 sugar pumpkin
water

  • Halve and de-seed the pumpkin (use a spoon to scrape out seeds and the stringy bits inside)
  • Place the two halves skin-side up in a baking pan with about 1-inch of water
  • Bake at 425 degrees for 40 minutes (cooking time depending on the size of the pumpkin)
  • When the pumpkin is easily pierced with a fork, allow to cool to the touch. Scrape the flesh into a bowl and mash or puree for your baby. Add a bit of cinnamon or brown sugar for a special treat!

If you want to combine flavors, plenty of fruits and vegetables blend well with pumpkin. Our favorite blends:

Apples
Bananas
Blueberries
Peaches
Carrots
Butternut Squash
Sweet Potato

You can skip the cooking and use canned pumpkin, but make sure you are buying pureed pumpkin and NOT pumpkin pie filling. Using a whole pumpkin has more nutritional benefits, plus the yummy seeds you can toast for a treat for yourself!
