Tweens Coalition to Offer Free School Wellness Workshop

By popular request, the Tweens Fitness and Nutrition Coalition and Fayette County Schools are offering “Simple and Sensible School Wellness Workshop: the Sequel” on Thursday, Feb. 11, 5-8 p.m. at Wellington Elementary.

The event is free and offers professional development. Plus, with new content and speakers, the sequel is appropriate for new and past attendees.

The workshop starts with information to help teachers find solutions to their own wellness challenges.

While participants are enjoying a delicious dinner from Vinaigrette, Laura Coombs, a fitness and nutrition specialist, will present innovative, interactive and fun wellness demonstrations. Teachers will also get the best tips for using Humana Vitality to receive free products and discounts to support their wellness goals.

Next, participants can pick from two break-out sessions led by FCPS teachers who have had success putting wellness into practice in their schools.

Topics include: Active Classrooms, Alternatives to Rewards, School Gardens, Healthy Schools Program, Indoor Recess, and Healthy Fundraising and Celebrations.

“We think participants will leave energized with new ideas for supporting their own wellness goals and the wellness environments in their classrooms,” Coalition Director Anita Courtney said.

“Consider bringing a team from your school. Imagine how the culture of wellness could continue to grow in your school if more teachers attended.”
