LCT Receives $10,000 NEA Grant for ‘Ugly Duckling’ Show
Lexington Children’s Theatre received a $10,000 grant for a new show, “The Ugly Duckling,” which will be staged in December at LCT’s Main Stage.
The grant is part of more than $82 million awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts to fund local arts projects across the country.
The NEA received 1,728 Art Works applications and will make 1,029 grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.
“The Ugly Duckling,” written by Vivian and Larry Snipes of LCT, is a story of perseverance and transformation re-told in a way unique to Lexington Children’s Theatre.
“We are thrilled to have support from the NEA for our new work based on Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Ugly Duckling,’” LCT Producing Director Larry Snipes said.
“At a time when differences are so often viewed with negativity and suspicion, we hope our new work will encourage all to remember the intrinsic value of those differences in the world around us.”
The NEA’s grants are designed to support the arts at the community level, according to Chairperson Jane Chu.
“The arts reflect the vision, energy and talent of America’s artists and arts organizations,” she said. “The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support organizations such as Lexington Children’s Theatre in serving their communities by providing excellent and accessible arts experiences.”
