Lexington Christian Academy Wins First National Cheerleading Championship
The Lexington Christian Academy cheerleading squad brought home its first national championship at the Universal Cheerleaders Association Cheerleading Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in Orlando.
The event concluded Feb. 10 with LCA besting 78 of the best Division II programs in the nation.
Members of the squad include seniors Bailey Fry, Elizabeth McCauley, Megan Rodgers, Caroline Royalty; juniors Avery Benson, Maria Day, Maya Grasso, Peyton Wilson; sophomore Allison Whitaker; freshman Jaryn Thomas; and eighth graders Marianna Lamm, Olivia Parker, Haleigh Roberts and Kennedy Rodgers.
The Eagles are led by long-time assistant and now in her first season as head coach, Brittany Bailey, along with assistants Molly Chaffin and Katie Combs.
Six years ago, a young and hungry LCA cheerleading squad made its first appearance on the national stage at the UCA Championships. Little did then coach Jennifer Fouch know that she and her girls would be laying the foundation for this title-run, which would ultimately fuel the group that would follow them during the 2018-19 school year.
Over the years, LCA’s cheerleading program has grown in popularity with a rise in the number of participating student-athletes.
“We are so proud of these exceptional young women,” Coach Bailey said. “Their commitment to achieving this level of competitive excellence is only exceeded by their humility and sportsmanship.”
