Embassy of Spain in D.C. Names Maxwell Its School of the Year
Maxwell Spanish Immersion Magnet Elementary has been named the 2018-19 School of the Year by the Embassy of Spain’s Education Office in Washington, D.C.
This award goes to schools in the United States that demonstrate excellence in content and language integrated learning programs in English and Spanish.
“We are honored to have been bestowed with this recognition that acknowledges the collaborative efforts of the entire Maxwell community to implement Spanish language and cultural education, enabling our students to be prepared to be leaders in a global society,” Principal Robert Crawford said.
Maxwell, which was Kentucky’s first whole-school immersion program, has a nearly 30-year record of providing quality education that is both innovative and effective in fostering Spanish language proficiency, academic achievement and global competence.
Former students also attest to how Maxwell influenced their choice of career and how they use intercultural competency as a base for their work and life.
The School of the Year competition is open to elementary, middle, and high schools – public, charter, or private.
