Details for FCPS Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for Fayette County Public Schools begins Tuesday, Feb. 4.
A child must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 to start kindergarten this fall in Fayette County Public Schools. To register for 2020-21, families may begin online. Afterward, a parent/guardian must then go to their neighborhood’s assigned school with their form number and two proofs of residence (e.g. deed or lease and a utility bill) to complete the registration process. To determine which school, use the SchoolSite Locator tool. For a list of required paperwork and health forms, please visit the district’s registration/enrollment webpage.
The first in-person registration window is Feb. 4-28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays, plus 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 11. (If schools close because of bad weather, then registration is canceled.) The second window is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays April 7-30, plus 5 to 7 p.m. on April 14. These sign-up periods are for this fall’s incoming kindergarteners. Older students joining FCPS in 2020-21 may register starting July 30 through Aug. 12, which is the first day of school.
For registration questions, please call the Pupil Personnel office at (859) 381-4130. For resources to help youngsters transition to school, visit the kindergarten webpage.
Preschool process for 2020-21
Families may apply for the Fayette County Preschool Program if their child turns 4 on or before Aug. 1 and is income-eligible. Three- and 4-year-olds who have a special need may also apply. A parent/guardian can begin with the online form this spring. They must then visit the FCPS Early Childhood Department at 701 E. Main St. to complete the paperwork; the 2020-21 packets will be available starting April 27. Families without computer access may fill out the entire application at the district office or at their local elementary school.
